El
Descanso
A Cultural Mixteco
Retreat
El
Descanso is located in the valley of Agua
Escondida, Puebla, Mexico.
It is in a semi-tropical locale where the soil is rich and the
land is known for its sugar cane production and artisans. In this small
village, located in a rural setting, you can experience the authentic Mixteco
culture that has survived centuries. It is a unique retreat location
favoring an exclusive lifetime experience. Many ruins from historic
haciendas and the ancient Mixteco culture can be found in the area.
Hernan Cortez, one of the famed conquistadores of Mexico, chose this area as
his home because of its natural beauty and resources.
A
visit to El Descanso is a once in a lifetime enriching
experience. We will provide you with treasured memories derived from
guided tours and fine cuisine, while expanding your horizons and enlightening
you about the ancient culture of the Mixtecos. On the premises we have a
gourmet kitchen with a Chef-in-House and a small art gallery which features
indigenous Mexican folk art and Mixteco influenced paintings by our
Artist-in-Residence. We offer workshops in Indian pottery making and
sculpting. We also offer authentic Mexican cuisine events - you can
learn to make home-made salsas and hand-made tortillas, and other authentic
dishes just like the ancient Mixteco natives. Additional Amenities
available include spa treatments with massage therapists, mud masks, and even
visits with local Curanderas also known as “healers”.
